About

Urban Himalaya is an international, interdisciplinary, collaborative research partnership that seeks to understand urbanization and vulnerability in the Himalaya. Founded in 2017, the team has expanded to include geographers, environmental scientists, anthropologists, historians, and economists. Together with their collaborators, the Urban Himalaya team is exploring how urbanization is impacting susceptibility to threats specific to the Himalayan region. The collaboration draws upon faculty and student engagement, government support, and local expertise to share data and information about the Himalayan region.

The partnership is funded by NASA, Yale University, the University of British Columbia, and International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD).
